The above two photos were taken by Roy Norris at Ferry Meadows on the 19th of June 07. The upper shows a partially mature male and the lower a fully mature male. So with Brian's photo below we have an indication of the range of colouring in just the one sex of this species.

Female of glorious colour which is an extremely unusual form. The extensive suffusion of yellow in the wings is rarely seen. I photographed this in the Turves - Wype Doles area on 25.08.06

I photographed the above mature male on Blackbush Drove out of Whittlesey on 25.08.06. Notice the absence of the middle, or handle part of the club shaped mark on segment 2, making this a rare aberrant colour form.

Blue-tailed Damselfly - Ischnura elegans

This is a very interesting damselfly. Although common it has several colour forms that are well worth looking out for. I particularly like the female rufescens form, an example by Brian Stone is illustrated in the examples below.
